Veterinary Clinical Microbiologist

Position: The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences invites applications for a clinical- or tenure-track faculty position in Veterinary Clinical Microbiology at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team that includes a veterinary clinical microbiologist, laboratory coordinator and 5 microbiology technicians.

Responsibilities: Duties will include (1) supervision of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory, which serves the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital and (2) lecture and laboratory teaching in the professional and undergraduate curricula. Expectations for scholarly activity will be commensurate with the appointment to either the clinical or tenure track. The division of responsibilities will be at levels consistent with the candidate’s strengths and interests; however, at least 50% of the successful candidate’s commitment will include supervision of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.

Qualifications: Requirements for this position include a DVM or equivalent degree, Texas veterinary license eligibility, and board certification or eligibility in the American College of Veterinary Microbiologists. Board-eligible candidates will be expected to pass boards within the foreseeable future. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are required.

Rank: The appointment will be in either the clinical or tenure track at the level of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will also hold the title of Director or Assistant Director, commensurate with qualifications and experience, of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Laboratory, Department, and College: The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory is an in-house laboratory serving the Large and Small Animal Hospital, the necropsy service and researchers within the college. Annually, the Veterinary Clinical Microbiology laboratory processes over 3000 clinical submissions for aerobic and anaerobic bacterial cultures, fungal cultures, susceptibility tests and toxin detection tests. The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology includes 60 full-time faculty members and is one of five academic departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences. Scholarly activities are diverse and teaching occurs at the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level. Among the College’s Signature Programs are those in “Infectious Diseases and Biodefense” and “Veterinary Clinical Research.”
