The Peptide Synthesis Core is located at VMS 116 and will provide the following services:

1) Consultation and computer analyses of your protein sequence to select for optimal peptide sequences depending on your application;

2) Synthesis of the peptide sequence on a 9050 Plus automated peptide synthesizer by Perceptive Biochemical, Milligen. This system features flexible activation chemistries such that different activations can be utilized during a single synthesis, continuous flow Fmoc chemistry, easy scale up, and synthesis monitoring.

3) Cleavage of the peptide from the solid support.

4) Peptide purification:

a. series of organic precipitations
b. gel filtration (Sephadex G25)
c. reverse-phase HPL

5) Peptide characterization by analytical HPLC and mass spectroscopy (note: mass spectroscopy is not done by the peptide core facility, but is sent out).

NOTE: Each of these services will have a separate charge as indicated under “rate structure” and given the indicated priority (pg 2). Rates are based on the cost of the solid phase resin, protected amino acids, and chemicals. Charges for mass spectroscopy are based on charges made to the core facility. Not included is labor and cost of service agreement.
