Assistant/Associate Professor in Small Animal Neurology/Neurosurgery

The Department of Veterinary Small Animal Clinical Sciences, College of Veterinary Medicine, Texas A&M University invites applications for two tenure-track, assistant, associate or full professor positions in small animal neurology/neurosurgery.  Applicants should be diplomates of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Specialty of Neurology) or board eligible, and should have received training in neurosurgery. 

The successful candidates will devote approximately 50% of their time to instruction and patient care in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.  The remaining time will be devoted to classroom and laboratory teaching, the development of a creative research program, and academic service.  The existence of a neuroscience faculty at the university offers strong opportunities for collaborative research. The successful candidates will together have the opportunity to develop the neurology/neurosurgery section according to their collective vision.  Physical support for the section includes but is not limited to on-site CT (with 3-D reconstruction capability), a Nicolet VikingSelect electrodiagnostic machine, cavitational ultrasonic aspirator (CUSA), and stereostactic biopsy equipment.  Negotiations for in-hospital MRI support are ongoing. The successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with approximately 40 faculty members and 18 interns and residents in the Department of Veterinary Small Animal Clinical Sciences.  The successful candidates will join a College that is currently focusing efforts into recruitment of 37 new faculty positions, and a University that is focusing efforts into recruitment of over 400 new faculty positions, over the next 4 years.  Clinical support services in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital include anesthesiology, clinical pathology, immunology, microbiology, parasitology, pathology, radiology, and toxicology.  The Texas Veterinary Medical Center, of which the College of Veterinary Medicine is a component, supports more than 240 faculty members and other professionals, with a total annual budget of about $60 million.  Currently, the Center has approximately 150 graduate students, 500 students seeking the DVM degree, and 2,000 students in its undergraduate biomedical sciences curriculum.
