Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)

“Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive technique that relies on changes in proton energy to generate highly detailed views of the body.  In most cases, MRI is the best method of imaging the central nervous system.  Certain brain tumors, stroke, metabolic encephalopathies, and degenerative brain diseases can be difficult to characterize without MRI.  MRI is also an excellent means of imaging the spinal cord and vertebral column.  It may provide prognostic information in certain disk-related spinal cord injuries, aid in surgical localization, and is essential in making the clinical diagnosis of degenerative myelopathy.”
