General Surgery

General Surgery is a required clinical rotation for all 4th-year students and interns.

Students perform elective surgical procedures commonly seen in private practice -- such as spays and neuters -- under the direct supervision of a veterinarian.

Services are provided for clients of the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital as well as the Brazos Animal Shelter, the Austin Humane Society, and the AFCAT program.

The General Surgery Service helps make our graduates among the most surgically competent in the nation.
