A. The Small Animal Pharmacy is responsible for dispensing controlled drugs in the Small Animal Clinic.

B. Controlled drugs will be dispensed from the Small Animal Pharmacy during regular business hours, 8:00 am - 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. They are available from the Central Pharmacy in the Large Animal Clinic during its normal operating hours.

C. To provide after-hours and weekend emergency controlled drug access, a limited supply of selected controlled drugs will be maintained in the Pyxis system in SA/ICU Room 1067. All ICU technicians have access to the Pyxis and any intern requesting access to the Pyxis must be appropriately trained.

D. Federal regulations mandate that our record keeping be complete. Your cooperation and assistance in helping us create and record an accurate audit trail, especially after hours, is of the utmost importance.
