Job Description
Food Animal Surgeon (tenure track)

The Food Animal Surgery position is tenure-track.  Therefore, in keeping with the charge of Texas A&M University, success and advancement in this position will require ongoing excellence in the following areas:

Teaching

  1. The Food Animal Surgeon will contribute significantly to didactic and laboratory teaching in the Food Animal Program by developing well-organized creative lectures and laboratory materials in the professional curriculum.
  2. This individual is also expected to participate in Large Animal surgery courses.  Additionally, there are opportunities to develop Food Animal surgery electives.
  3. Supervision of veterinary students and house officers, as well as consultation with practicing veterinarians and clients, will be expected.
  4. The Food Animal Surgeon will provide continuing education to practitioners in Texas, nationally, and internationally.

Scholarship

  1. The Food Animal Surgeon is expected to engage in scholarly activity required for promotion and tenure.   
  2. The Food Animal Surgeon will engage in independent programs of scholarship, and will also collaborate with investigators within and outside of the College of Veterinary Medicine.  
  3. The departmental commitment to Patient-Centered Research will afford the opportunity for the Food Animal Surgeon to integrate clinical activity and scholarship efforts.

Patient Care

  1. Along with current Food Animal faculty, primary clinical responsibility will be to provide food animal surgery for the in-house Food Animal Medicine and Surgery Service, with a goal of uninterrupted, year-round clinical food animal surgical service for the hospital.
  2. The major clinical commitment of this position is Food Animal Surgery.
  3. Other clinical responsibilities will include providing Emergency Service on a rotating basis with other Large Animal surgery faculty.

Committee Assignments and Administrative Duties

The Food Animal Surgeon will be assigned to the Surgery Section and will participate in administrative duties and committees as assigned by the Department Head or Section Chief.
