The mission of the Epidemiology and Public Health Program at Texas A&M University, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is to serve the academic community and beyond through excellence in research, learning and outreach focusing on the use of basic and applied methods to address problems at the interface of animal and human health.

Keri Norman will present her dissertation work at the Conference of Research Workers in Animal Diseases in Chicago, IL, December 6-8, 2009. Keri is a PhD candidate investigating the possible food safety and occupational risks associated with Clostridium difficile and swine.

Dr. Lisa Benjamin was awarded an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) Postdoctoral Fellowship to work with Dr. Robert Atwill, the Interim Director of the Western Institute of Food Safety and Security at U.C. Davis. Her work will involve identification of reservoirs of bacterial contamination and the mechanisms by which animal pathogens move into the production environment.

Four Epidemiology and Public Health graduate students (Glenda Bingham, Dr. Dipa Brahmbhatt, Dr. Amy Delgado, Keri Norman) and post-doctoral researcher, Dr. Linda Highfield, will present their work at the 12th International Symposium on Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (ISVEE) in Durban, South Africa, August 10-14, 2009.
