Welcome to the web page for the Texas A&M Student Chapter of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (SCACVIM)! Our organization was established and recognized as an official SCAVMA organization in Fall 2008. The purpose of the Chapter is to promote the specialties of cardiology, neurology, oncology, large animal internal medicine, and small animal internal medicine through the advancement of knowledge to veterinary medical students.
Affiliation includes the following benefits:
- eligibility for participation in a variety of wet labs and field trips
- opportunities to participate in a sponsored small-group lunch with a veterinary intern or resident at Texas A&M
- free online subscription to the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine
- access to a mailing list server and chat board where student affiliates can post questions, case reports, etc. to discuss with other chapters
Students are encouraged to attend club meetings hosting guest speakers that will discuss some of the various aspects of internal medicine. Students will gain exposure to clinical and research developments in the field outside of the classroom setting. Wet labs facilitated by faculty and resident clinicians will allow students to interact with knowledgeable experts who will demonstrate current diagnostic techniques that are routinely used in the internal medicine, cardiology, oncology, and/or neurology services. Field trips to veterinary specialty hospitals will give students some insight into the roles and responsibilities of board-certified specialists of internal medicine and its subspecialties in private practice.

SCACVIM Objectives
- To disseminate information about the function of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and its various specialties to its student affiliates.
- To encourage pursuit of advanced training (internships or residencies) in the various specialties of American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine by the Chapter student affiliates.
- To encourage student affiliates to pursue activities related to cardiology, neurology, oncology, large animal internal medicine, and small animal internal medicine such that they are able to gain exposure and experience in this area outside of the classroom, and facilitate their own understanding of the discipline.
- To expose and/or encourage student affiliates to participate in veterinary research.
- To encourage student affiliates to work closely with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine Foundation to develop fundraising activities so the Chapter may organize related workshops, as well as supplement travel expenses to the ACVIM Forum.
