Research
and graduate education programs are supported by numerous individual laboratories
operated by dedicated scientists who have as their first priority the acquisition
and transfer of knowledge. Modern equipment is available, and state-of-the-art
technology is constantly being introduced. Centralized facilities include
the Veterinary Medical Park for care and use of large animals, a Laboratory
Animals Resources and Research facility, an Image Analysis Laboratory, a
Flow Cytometry Laboratory, and a Biomedical Media Resources Center with computer
laboratories. In addition, resources of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital
and the Diagnostic Laboratory are available to support research projects.
A recently completed building construction program provides modern research
laboratory space sufficient to meet research needs extending into the twenty-first
century. The Texas Veterinary Medical Center shares the Medical Sciences
Library facility with the Texas A&M University College of Medicine, located
across the street. Easy, all-weather access to both the library and colleagues
in the College of Medicine is provided by a tunnel. The Medical Sciences
Library currently houses more than 120,000 volumes, including more than 1,800
serial titles. Full library services are available, including computerized
literature searches, interlibrary loans, and a dedicated
professional staff.
