Graduate Studies - Costs

Cost of Study

Tuition during the 1999-2000 academic year varies per semester credit hour for Texas residents and nonresident and international students. Additional fees also vary depending upon the number of credit hours and number of courses. Other services, such as the Student Center and the Health Center, cost approximately $76 per semester. Resident fees for 9 credit hours average $1265; nonresident fees average $3181. Resident fees for 12 credit hours average $1642; for nonresidents, $4198. All fees are subject to change without notice.

Financial Aid

Research and teaching assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis by the College as well as by interdisciplinary programs and departments. Many investigators have research grants that provide graduate research assistantships. Stipends are on a twelve-month basis, are at levels competitive with those available nationally, and usually include a waiver of out-of-state tuition.

Housing Costs

On-campus housing is not available for graduate students except during the summer months. Married student housing is available on a limited basis. A wide range of off-campus rental housing is available, with prices starting from about $340 per month for an efficiency apartment and $425 for a two-bedroom, one-bath apartment. Many opportunities to share expenses are also available. An off-campus housing office can efficiently aid in the matching process. A shuttle-bus service to the campus is convenient to most off-campus housing locations.
