PROJECT MIDNIGHT

The Pre-Vet Society strives to expose students to a variety of animal related opportunities as well as give back to the local community through activities like Big Event and CVM Open House. Our newest service project involves Midnight who is the service dog and companion (thus the project name) of Ms. Miller, a local citizen desperately in need of our help. Ms. Miller suffers from cerebral palsy, a neurological disease affecting her lifestyle with limited communication skills and mobility. Due to her condition she is unable to provide her black lab Midnight with the exercise and playtime every rambunctious lab demands.

We need your help to make sure that Midnight stays happy and healthy so Ms. Miller can too!

Two people at a time would be responsible for a week of walking Midnight every day and bathing him twice weekly (Monday and Friday). The shifts are from 6:30pm to approximately 8:30pm and involve taking both Ms. Miller and Midnight in her (very old) van to research park in the evening so she can feed the ducks their dinner. She only needs help loading and unloading her walker and transportation; Ms. Miller is not looking for a babysitter or companion, just a means to get around and a reliable dog walker. While she feeds the ducks you would walk and play with Midnight at the park for about an hour before returning them both home.

This project requires a daily commitment for only a week and will have a drastic positive impact of the lives of both Ms. Miller and Midnight. She lives alone and has no means to travel so her daily outings are very important to her, and the hungry ducks! If you would like to help please understand the significance of your participation and respect her requested schedule.

Only a single week's commitment earns you about 15 hours of community service! This completely fulfills your volunteer points category for Pre-Vet Society for the entire semester, and the extra hours will significantly benefit your vet school application! The Advisors will see to it that this project and your participation is recognized by the admissions committee also.

If you would like to help with this very important project please sign up at the next meeting or contact Josh at jcquast07@tamu.edu to coordinate your week. Thank you for your help!
