Shadowing is offered to give pre-veterinary
students of Texas A&M experience at a veterinary clinic, to help prepare
students for the vet school application process and broaden horizons and
opportunities in the diverse field of veterinary medicine.
-
Students of any major are eligible
to apply and need not be a member of the Texas A&M Pre-Vet Society.
-
Individuals interested in shadowing must
apply and are chosen based on availability and interest as provided
on the application. If there are many students interested in one location the
participant will be chosen at random.
-
Participant involvement in clinical cases
will be at the discretion of the hosting veterinarian.
-
The OPSA liaison (currently
Reagan Hall) will issue invitations when approved by the Pre-Vet Society
officers and the veterinarian being shadowed. A shadowing opportunity is not
guaranteed.
-
Shadowing is generally expected to last a
month, with exceptions only as requested by the veterinarian.
-
This program is based on a voluntary basis
and participants will not be compensated for their time and travel
expenses.
-
Once confirmed, it will be YOUR
responsibility to make contact with the hosting veterinarian to set up a
mutually convenient time to shadow. Acceptance of a shadow opportunity means
you have made a commitment to the dates and time agreed upon by you and your
hosting veterinarian! Failure to uphold this commitment will remove you
from the Shadow Program indefinitely!!
-
Should a complaint be made against the
participant or veterinarian the Pre-Vet Society officers will review the case
and assign a probation period before re-admittance into the program if
necessary.
-
Shadow Program participants are expected to
keep a record of hours and activities and will be evaluated at the conclusion
of their term by the hosting veterinarian. Students will also evaluate their
experience as a participant in order to make improvements for future
participants. Your responses will be extremely valuable as we assess our new
program!
