Research

The laboratory is focused on understanding fundamental mechanisms associated with successful implantation and establishment of pregnancy.  Differentiation of peri-implantation trophoblast and the integrated roles of growth factors, steroid hormones, extracellular matrix proteins, and integrins in mediating conceptus-maternal interactions during implantation are the major areas of emphasis. The current focus of the lab is on the role of the beta transforming growth factors (TGFßs) during implantation; in vitro and in vivo porcine and ovine models are being utilized to determine expression and functions of TGFß-associated molecules at the conceptus-maternal interface.

Major Classroom Teaching Responsibilities

Veterinary Anatomy and Public Health (VAPH) 912, Gross Anatomy II (Gross Anatomy of Large Domestic Species), Professor-In-Charge.  This is a required laboratory-based class for students in the first year of the professional veterinary curriculum.  The focus of the class is on gross and topographical anatomy of domestic livestock (equine, ruminant, porcine, and avian species), with emphasis on structures of clinical relevance and integration of structure with function.
