Lymphoid System
Light Microscopy
40: mucosal surface, less extensive lymphoid accumulations
58: collagenous connective tissue capsule, cortex and medulla (made of ? =
pg. 198), what is the hilum? Reticulum cells and macrophages
(special stain dependent), subcapsular sinus = contains lymphocytes
and macrophages, reticulum cells = large, euchromatic nucleus with
prominent nucleolus, macrophages throughout – may have abundant
lysosomes, outer cortex and perifollicular regions (T cells) =
lymphopoiesis, germinal center surrounded by what type of
lymphocytes ?, cells in mitotic division in germinal center, medulla:
lymphocytes and plasma cells
61: red and white pulp (can see with naked eye), NO cortex and medulla,
collagenous connective tissue capsule, spleen filters blood!, white
pulp is similar to cortex of lymph node, lymphocytes in white pulp =
periarteriolar lymphatic sheath, follicles containing B cells, littoral
cells, pulp cords, marginal zone, erythrophagocytosis can be seen
among macrophages in pulp cords
63: penicillar arteries in marginal zone
68: lobular arrangement, dark stained cortex (dense lymphocytes =
thymocytes), light medulla, capsule and extending septa, mitotic
figures, epithelial cells more prominent than lymphocytes in medulla,
Hassall’s corpuscles
204: lymphoid nodules in connective tissue
211: penicillar arteries in marginal zone
212: clusters of pale, epithelial-like cells, lymph nodes filter metastatic cells
as well as immune cells and lymph fluid.
237: reticulum fibers, white pulp is gray sheath with blood vessels, blood
vascular elements
238: lobular arrangement, dark stained cortex (dense lymphocytes =
thymocytes), light medulla, capsule and extending septa, mitotic
figures, epithelial cells more prominent than lymphocytes in medulla,
Hassall’s corpuscles
246: lymphoid accumulations, no afferent lymph system
248: collagenous connective tissue capsule, cortex and medulla (made of ?
pg. 198), what is the hilum? Reticulum cells and macrophages
(special stain dependent), subcapsular sinus = contains lymphocytes
and macrophages, reticulum cells = large, euchromatic nucleus with
prominent nucleolus, macrophages throughout – may have abundant
lysosomes, outer cortex and perifollicular regions (T cells) =
lymphopoiesis, germinal center surrounded by what type of
lymphocytes ?, cells in mitotic division in germinal center, medulla:
lymphocytes and plasma cellsElectron Microscopy
EM’s:
6: high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio of unreactive lymphocytes
8f: high nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio of unreactive lymphocytes
