Hematopoiesis

Light Microscopy

SLIDES:

239: progranulocyte, three mentioned characteristics of nucleus p. 166, deep blue
cytoplasm because of RER with purple granules (azurophilic/lysosomes).
Eosinophil precursor

7: round empty spaces of removed lipid, vascular channels with hematopoietic regions,
homogenous eosinophilic strand = decalcified bony trabecula. Arterioles and
sinusoids. Large magakaryocytes.

15: round empty spaces of removed lipid, vascular channels with hematopoietic regions,
homogenous eosinophilic strand = decalcified bony trabecula. Arterioles and
sinusoids. Large magakaryocytes.

16: round empty spaces of removed lipid, vascular channels with hematopoietic regions,
homogenous eosinophilic strand = decalcified bony trabecula. Arterioles and
sinusoids. Large magakaryocytes.

Megakaryocytes: large in size, uniform gray/granulated cytoplasm, multinucleated
Nurse Cells: difficult to see

Electron Microscopy

EM’s:

12a: repository for iron as seen along plasma membrane, identify normoblast
(erythroblasts), see the varying degrees of condensation, identify nurse cell
(macrophage), notice the profiles of the RER and Golgi, and note why they are
important for this cell.

8a: later stages of erythropoietic cells – normoblasts, reticulocytes, and mature
erythrocyte, portion of nurse cell, eosinophil precursor (myrlocyte)

12b: granulocytes, RER and Golgi, granules
