Geographic Distribution

The serotypes of FMD differ in their geographical distribution with only types O, A, and C currently located in South America. As of January 1, 2000 the disease has been confirmed in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America (except Chile); and has not been found currently in North America, Central America, China, Australia, New Zealand and Antarctica.
