We are seeking highly qualified applicants for a 12-month, fully budgeted, tenure-track faculty position in the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University. This position is intended to help address the critical need to apply contemporary epidemiologic methods to solve animal and human health problems posed by emerging and deliberately introduced infectious diseases. The ideal candidate will be recognized for the development and use of contemporary methods in analytical epidemiology; will be expected to collaborate with laboratory scientists, practicing veterinarians, or government agencies; and will complement and enrich current epidemiological expertise within the university.
Applications are encouraged from candidates with special interest and expertise in at least one of the following areas: 1) risk assessment methodologies, 2) genetic epidemiology, 3) spatial statistics or spatial epidemiology, 4) mathematical modeling, or 5) molecular epidemiology. The successful candidate will be encouraged to work with others to integrate results of microbiologic studies and knowledge of environmental and host risk factors to contribute to developing risk assessments and emerging disease surveillance, control, and prevention programs. The successful candidate will join the dynamic group of six faculty members within the Department of Veterinary Integrative Biosciences engaged in epidemiology and public health research, teaching, and service.
Requirements: The successful candidate will hold an advanced degree (PhD or equivalent preferred) in a relevant discipline (e.g., epidemiology, risk analysis, biostatistics). A degree in veterinary medicine is also desirable. Prior postdoctoral research and teaching experience are assets.
Duties: The position will comprise approximately 70% research and 30% teaching/academic service: the exact distribution of effort is negotiable. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research program to complement the signature program in biodefense and emerging infectious diseases. Teaching at the graduate or professional level or both is expected. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills as well as a collegial attitude are imperative. Those candidates with a veterinary degree and whose research and teaching interests extend to clinical and production medicine are eligible for a clinical appointment in the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.
