Molecular Immunology/Immunogenetics Research Faculty Position

The Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University invites applications for a tenure track, fully funded, twelve month Associate or Full Professor position in molecular immunology or immunogenetics. Candidate should hold a PhD in either immunology/microbiology or genetics. A DVM degree is desirable, but not mandatory. Applicants with interest and experience in infectious diseases of cattle are especially encouraged to apply. In addition, a successful track record of sustained extramural funding, superior grantsmanship, significant publication record, and the training of graduate students and postdoctoral associates are required. Applicants must be eligible for appointment to the graduate faculty at Texas A&M University.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute 75% effort in research, and have an established, extramurally funded research program in molecular immunology of infectious diseases and immunogenetics. It is anticipated that this program will lead to improved understanding of host-pathogen interactions and genetics associated with control of and resistance to infectious diseases of animals and humans. A major focus on immunogenetics of cattle is especially desirable. Collaborations will be expected with other scientists studying infectious disease problems in livestock relevant to Texas agriculture and public health. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in graduate student education (20% effort) by coordinating a course in immunogenetics and team teaching a course in advanced immunology. The direction of graduate students and postdoctoral scientists is also expected. In addition, 5% effort will be allocated to academic and administrative assignments. Rank, salary and start-up will be contingent upon experience and national reputation.

Interested candidates should submit a statement of career goals and research interests, curriculum vita, summary of current and planned research support, experience in training graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, teaching interests and experience, and names and addresses of three individuals that can, when requested by the search committee, provide letters on research and teaching ability, and collegiality. Application review will begin December 1, 2007 and continue until the position is filled. Applications can be sent to cvoelker@cvm.tamu.edu or mailed to Ms. Cindy Voelker for the attention of Dr. Guan Zhu (chair of the search committee) Department of Veterinary Pathobiology, College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Texas A&M University, 4467 TAMU, College Station, Texas 77843-4467, USA.
