Comments: The Milo Sanctuary in Willits, Ca, is seeking candidate(s) for short or long term positions & internships. International students strongly encouraged to apply. This position involves daily participation in our Canine Health & Care Program. Duties include: medicating (dosing/administering/ordering), feeding and diet planning, behavioral training, socializing, first aid and wound care, maintaining cleaning and medicating protocols, vaccinating, blood draws, administering sub-coetaneous fluids, grooming, and other tasks for 100+ Dogs. It also includes interacting with area Veterinarians and Animal Control personnel. This is a rare opportunity. Nestled in the foothills of the Redwoods, the Milo Sanctuary is one of America’s largest animal sanctuaries, covering 283-acres, roughly 1/3 the size of either Golden Gate or Central Park. The majority of our animals live in Habitats deep in the forest. These habitats are non-evasive in design, following the natural line of the woodlands, and average in size between 1/16 and ¼ acre. Our residents represent all manner of canine and feline breeds and age groups. In addition our resident manifest all manner of maladies associated with species and age, and a wide range of behavioral peculiarities. None of our residents are aggressive towards people. The Milo Sanctuary, in conjunction with our sister location, Milo Marin in San Rafael, Ca. has been serving the San Francisco Bay Area, and the state of California since 1994. Annually we adopt out more than 1,000 animals and in our 15-year history, Milo has rescued some 15,000 companion animals. Applicants must be in very good shape physically as the work is physically demanding, and the working conditions can be very harsh, with extreme heat in summer, cold in winter. You have to be tough to be here. In terms of the variety of work, the Sanctuary can best be described as a cross between a zoo and logging camp. Any experience in remote working locations, or farm experience is a great asset. Applicants must be in very good shape mentally as the location is very remote, the town of Willits is about 20 minutes away, and there is no cell phone service. We are 140 miles north of San Francisco international Airport. Requirements are as follows: * Verifiable academic proficiency in Veterinary Field * Working Knowledge of Basic Veterinary Care. * Working Knowledge of Veterinary Pharmaceuticals. * Professional Dog Handling Skills including Humane Capture and Restraint. * Able to work without supervision. * Accurate record keeping & computer skills. * Able to handle constantly shifting priorities and not become flustered.
