Autosomal Recessive Familial Nephropathy
We have identified the mutation that causes Autosomal Recessive Familial Nephropathy (ARFN) in the English Cocker Spaniel. ARFN is a juvenile onset renal disease homologous to Alport syndrome in humans. This type IV collagen disorder causes death in affected puppies 6 months to 2 years of age. Genetic testing for the mutation is available in the U.S. and Canada at Optigen. This work was carried out by Ashley Davidson with help from Rebecca Bell.
