The College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences is currently conducting a search for a Dean. Periodic updates and notes from the CVMBS Dean Search Advisory Committee are provided below.

April 24, 2008
UPDATE: Search Committee Meeting

In the absence of Chair Mark Hussey, Dr. Evelyn Castiglioni convened the meeting. The committee reviewed notes from the April 9 meeting; notes were approved as submitted and posted to the web. The Search Advisory Committee received an update on nominations and applications that had been received to date. The names of four [4] additional candidates were provided by committee members. Patricia Gerling distributed a “draft” letter that will be sent to all prospective candidates and provided an overview of the process for contacting nominees and applicants; the letter was approved within minor edits. Patricia Gerling provided an update on publication venues and web-posting sites for the position announcement. A “draft” 2-page College Overview that will be distributed to all prospective candidates was distributed for further review/comment. Several comments were discussed during the meeting; committee members were encouraged to provide final comments no later than noon, Monday, April 28. The committee concluded the meeting with an lengthy discussion and review of “draft ” documents outlining qualifications and expectations for the position, as well as a proposed matrix for use during the candidate screening process.

UPDATE: Search Committee Meeting

A brief discussion was held regarding the recent CVMBS College Hour.  During the recent College Hour, a college student leader voiced the students’ interest in being represented on the search advisory committee.  The search committee discussed student participation in the search process.  Dr. Hussey agreed to follow-up with Provost Strawser and communicate his decision.  The committee reviewed a final “draft” of the position announcement, with final comments requested by April 10, so that the announcement could be finalized for posting to numerous print and on-line venues.  A final “draft” of the search process was approved and will be posted to the website.  The committee reviewed and provided comments to a search timeline that was approved as edited for posting to the website.   Committee members continued a discussion regarding the characteristics/attributes for the position as well as conferred regarding the development of a matrix for evaluating candidates.

UPDATE: CVMBS College Hour

Search Committee Chair Mark Hussey spoke to an audience of approx. 50 faculty and students during the weekly CVMBS College Hour.  After introducing members of the search advisory committee, Dr. Hussey provided an overview of the search process to include the committee’s charge, a tentative timeline, as well as an update on the search committee’s discussions.  Following a brief open discussion regarding the characteristics and attributes of the next College Dean, Dr. Hussey outlined the process for nominating or applying for the position.  Chairman Hussey invited comments and input to the following e-mail address vcoffice@ag.tamu.edu.

UPDATE: Search Committee Meeting

The Search Advisory Committee reviewed and provided comments on a “draft” position announcement, and the consensus of the committee was to publicize an abbreviated position announcement with the goal of providing additional information on the search website.  A brief discussion was held regarding “expectations” for the position, and the chair invited committee members to send their comments to his office following the meeting. The committee discussed the search process and reviewed a “draft” document outlining a series of activities associated with the search.  Search Chair Mark Hussey sought input regarding the CVMBS College Hour and shared his thoughts.  A brief discussion was held regarding the search committee’s role in representing the interests of faculty, staff and students within their respective departments as well as the need for effective communications with their constituents.  All committee members were encouraged to engage their respective faculty and colleagues in the solicitation of nominations for the position.   Committee members were invited to provide comments on the search website.

UPDATE: Search Committee Meeting

The CVMBS Dean Search Advisory Committee convened its first meeting on Wednesday, March 10. Following a brief welcome by Chairman Mark Hussey and introduction of committee members, Interim Provost Jerry Strawser presented the charge to the committee. The committee held a brief philosophical discussion regarding “expectations” for the position. Following a review of information from recent dean searches, the committee agreed that the first order of business was the development of a position announcement and a website. To facilitate the engagement of faculty, the Committee recommended that the Search Advisory Committee meet with the faculty, staff and students during an upcoming "College Hour," and the date of March 28 was recommended. The committee agreed to meet every other Wednesday from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. at a location to be determined.
